Dear Quilting Friends,

I can’t believe it’s already November! Our next GRG Friendship Meeting is just around the corner—taking place on Saturday, November 16th. It seems like time flies faster the older we get, doesn’t it? Someone once told me that it’s because the more experiences we have, the faster time moves. Well, that certainly feels true! But enough about the passing of time…let’s get down to the exciting details of our upcoming meeting.

Event Details:

We’re thrilled to invite you to our next GRG Friendship Meeting, which will take place at the Northcliff Union Church on Saturday, November 16th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It promises to be a fun-filled morning packed with inspiration, creativity, and of course, lots of quilting.

What’s Happening?

Quilt Displays: We will have stunning quilts on display, thanks to the talented ladies at Part Time Quilters and Quadrilles. Come admire their craftsmanship and vote for your favourite in the Viewer’s Choice competition!

Lucky Draws: There will be lucky draws throughout the morning, so don’t miss out on a chance to win something special!

Inspirational Talk by Ansa Steenkamp: Ansa, from our TAGG movement, will be sharing her insights on Where to Find Inspiration in the world of quilting. A must-attend for anyone looking to spark their creativity!

Vendors Galore: We have 10 fabulous vendors confirmed for the gathering, offering a variety of quilting supplies and treats:

Quilter of the Year 2024:

We are excited to announce the Quilter of the Year award, which will be presented at our March 2025 meeting. We are inviting each home group to nominate one quilter for this prestigious title.

Criteria for Nominations: When selecting your nominee, please consider the following:

  • Technical Skill – Quality, precision, and craftsmanship of their quilts.
  • Creativity & Innovation – Unique design, use of colour, and imaginative patterns.
  • Community Engagement – Participation in quilt shows, workshops, mentoring, etc.
  • Impact on the Quilting Community – Influence on trends, education, and inspiration.
  • Contributions to Quilting Education – Classes, tutorials, or public speaking.
  • Versatility – Range of techniques and quilt styles (traditional, modern, art quilts, etc.).
  • Quality of Work – Attention to detail, finish, and presentation.
  • Sustainability & Ethical Practices – Eco-conscious and ethical sourcing of materials.

Each home group should submit their nominee’s achievements, accompanied by photos of their quilts. We also request that some of the nominee’s quilts be available for display at the March meeting. Nominations will close on November 29, 2024.

2025 Challenge Announcement:

We will also be unveiling our 2025 Challenge at the November meeting, so be sure to come ready for some exciting new inspiration!

We can’t wait to see you all there, enjoy some beautiful quilts, and share in the joy of our quilting community. Please mark your calendars for November 16th, and get ready for a wonderful day of learning, sharing, and celebrating the art of quilting.

Pensioners R100 unless you bring someone between the ages of 17 - 50, then you get in for free.
